The 2-days event “CODE-ATHENS Rail & City: International Symposium on Railway & City Development” was held in Athens between 16-17 April and was attended by our staff members Dafni Manousaridi and Stratis Babalikis.

Interesting examples of railway and city development and their interaction were presented, from different countries with a strong and significant tradition in development and urban planning and control. Specifically, presentations of the Central Rail Stations and city development in Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, in several Spanish cities and in Athens were made, as well as railway development and its impact on urban development issues in Switzerland, Spain and Greece were discussed. During the presentation of the integrated rail-spatial planning process of Zurich Stadtraum HB the concept of test planning process –which is being implemented in Patras- was elaborated.

The symposium was co-organised by the Technical Universities of Athens, Patras and ETH Zurich, with sponsorships from the Albert Speer Foundation and the Swiss Embassy, under the auspices of the City of Athens.
