Grand Sponsor at the 5th Panhellenic Planning and Regional Development Conference

Our company participated as a Grand Sponsor at the 5th Panhellenic Planning and Regional Development Conference organized by the Department of Planning and Regional Development, School of Engineering, University of Thessaly between 27-30 September 2018 in Volos.

The key to our participation as sponsors in this important conference was our deep faith in the significance of spatial planning in a modern and law-abiding state, to promote equality, transparency and scientific excellence in systems of spatial planning and project programming.

Our company executives Ms Dimitra Verra and Mr Stratis Babalikis participated in the conference proceedings and Mr. Stratis Babalikis, Urban Planner MSc MPhil, delivered the presentation titled “SPATIAL PLANNING AS A PRECONDITION FOR INFRASTRUCTURE NETWORKS IMPLEMENTATION IN THE CONTEXT OF RAPID GLOBAL URBANISATION”, based on our company’s years long experience in relevant projects and studies in different countries around the world. The full text of this presentation, which will be included in the Conference Proceedings, was prepared by our staff members Ms Dafni Manousaridi and Mr Stratis Babalikis.

The presentation, taking as a springboard the Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 11 of the UN 2030 Agenda, namely “Clean Water and Sanitation” for all and “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, focused on issues of rapid urbanization and the subsequent pressures on freshwater reserves, water resources, environment and public health.

The predominant role of spatial planning in the formulation of projects and programmes pertinent to future sustainable urban management, especially at the level of urban infrastructure planning, was emphasized in the presentation. In particular, the key factors shaping sustainable urban management were highlighted, namely adequate access to clean water and ensuring satisfactory hygiene conditions in terms of environmental protection and social cohesion in urban areas, that were showcased through the presentation of selected projects-studies implemented, or under implementation, by our company in different national and institutional frameworks, levels of development and local particularities (Greece, Cyprus, Ethiopia) in order to draw comparative results and lessons learnt.
