Signing of a new contract with the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi for Villa Iola
Our company Roikos SA (leader), in collaboration with MEAS SA and G. MARNERIS & ASSOCIATES LTD, following an international public tender, has been commissioned with the execution of the contract titled: “Studies on the creative reuse of Iola property in the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi” (Subwork 1: Creative reuse of Iola property in the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi MIS 5016102). The relevant contract was signed on 19.11.2019.
The main objective of the contract is the restoration and promotion of the listed building and the surrounding area, as well as its reuse as a Cultural Centre. The finally restored areas will feature activities of technological, scientific and artistic interest, while exhibiting works of Iola’s collection, which will result from possible borrowing from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki or from private collections in Greece.
The cultural protection of the building commonly known as “Villa Iola“, through its designation as “listed”, is not so much related to its aesthetics but to its history, that is to say “historic building”. The reuse of the building is not intended as a “museum” in the full sense of the term, but rather as a place of culture. There will be some space dedicated to the art collector and the history of the building complex, but most of the space will be dedicated to permanent and temporary exhibitions, various actions, interactive events, etc. In general, according to the approved designation of the building, the aim is to maintain it in its latest form, with the least possible interventions.
