Signing a new contract with the Ministry of Rural Development

Our companies ROIKOS SA (leader) and INTEGER SA, in collaboration with companies YDRODOMIKI Ltd., NERCO AU GuD Geotechnik und Dynamik GmbH, have been commissioned, through the international tender launched by the Directorate of Technical Design & Construction of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the contract: “Study for the construction of the dam of river Almopeos (Kalis) in the Prefecture of Pella”. The contract was signed on 27.05.2013, the project budget is 1.540.841,17 € plus VAT, and its completion deadline is 20 months.

The aim of the contract, which is co-funded by the Rural Development Programme of the National Strategic Reference Framework 2007-2013, is the completion of studies related to the construction of a dam at the Almopeos river in the Pella region, in order to create the reservoir for irrigating farms in the Thessaloniki plain, as well as to enhance the ecological flow in the peripheral trench of Thessaloniki. The project is also intended to:

  • Examine the conditions for manufacturing the dam at the different locations proposed, additionally to earlier studies of the dam, and prepare all supporting studies (surveying, geological, geotechnical, economic and environmental).
  • Formulate well-documented proposals based on the evaluation of the different locations proposed and the type of dam, taking into consideration a set of parameters, such as economic, environmental, etc.
  • Submit proposals related to water transfer, in order to supply the regional trench of Thessaloniki and the irrigation projects in the downstream plain.

More specifically, the contract includes the preparation of the following studies: a) Hydraulic Engineering Study, b) Electro-mechanical Study, c) Topographical and Surveying Study, d) Environmental Impact Assessment, e) Geotechnical Study, f) Geological Study, g) Agricultural Study,) Brief Feasibility Study and i) Supporting documents for the tender procedure. The Hydraulic Engineering Study also includes: a) An overall report for the layout of the irrigation projects, b) A study for earthquake safety in the proposed location for the dam construction, c) An operational and management plan for the reservoir (Study of Water Resources) d) A study of dynamic analysis of the dam and e) An impact study in the case of dam failure (break and flood passage through).
